Brandon Tay: Sangkalan

Building on Tay’s practice of narrative world-building, Brandon Tay: Sangkalan presents a speculative anthropology of a fictional island ecosystem where local culture is shaped by its relationship to nature. The series of sculptures, textiles, and archival materials collectively reveal the perceptual world of Sangkalan’s inhabitants through three key nodes in the island’s unique ecological system: a fruit, an insect, and a bird. Growing with each iteration of the National Library Board regional library presentation, these archival materials document the fictional discovery of the lost Sangkalan culture.
