Artist Residency || 01 Jul to 30 Sep 2026
dblspce (pronounced ‘double space’) is a Singapore-based independent research platform and incubator for artistic practice, discourse, and creative kinship. Founded by art practitioners and PhD researchers Sab Koh and Kimberly Shen, the platform operated from the Peninsula Shopping Centre between 2021 and 2026, fostering critical dialogue and interdisciplinary exchange through residencies and public programming for artists, researchers, and cultural practitioners. Grounded in artistic inquiry as a social and collective gesture—one that requires space, time, and support to flourish—dblspce serves as a catalyst for collaboration and experimentation, nurturing shared affinities and connections across emerging and diverse art practices.
While in residence, dblspce engages in a period of rest, recalibration, and reflection, contemplating how the role of the independent, artist-led platform and incubator can shift or reposition within, alongside, or in negotiation with the institutional framework. What constitutes the ethos of dblspce, and how might this ethos be sustained, translated, or transformed beyond its former physical location? Furthermore, what does it mean for one residency programme to host another, and how might this layering of structures reconfigure roles, responsibilities, and the infrastructures of care and kinship? dblspce hopes to experiment with dispersed, temporal, and mobile forms of engagement that extend beyond a fixed site, while continuing to explore collaborative approaches to artistic exchange and collective learning.
