Housed within the SAM office, the residency studios were designed for artists, curators, researchers and practitioners in residence and fellow museum staff to work in close proximity every day. Inaugurated by the first residents of the programme in October 2021, the studios are not delineated solely as a space for artistic production, but as fluid zones that serve multiple purposes: for dialogue; for experimentation; for display; for anything and everything.

Titled In the Studios, this volume gathers interviews with residents of Cycle 1 as re-think what it means to inhabit the studios and in the case, space as a medium.
