Expanding on artist Maria Taniguchi’s deep relationship with her materials, this panel discussion brings together three emerging artists: Liu Liling and Ryan Lim Zi Yi from Singapore, and Lou Lim from the Philippines, Taniguchi’s home country.

Like Taniguchi, these artists have developed distinctive practices around their materials of choice, both of which demand a significant investment of time and labour. By departing from traditional concepts of painting and sculpture, their approaches highlight how aesthetic experimentation—and emotional depth—can unfold across the surface of an artwork.
