Building a 'non-institution' institution publication launch
Following two years of conversations, programming, field trips and sharings, Building a ‘non-institution’ institution commemorates the end of the Fellowship with Shooshie Sulaiman through the launch of its publication!
More than a record of Shooshie’s Fellowship (2024–2025) with the Singapore Art Museum (SAM), the publication gathers reflections, anecdotes and encounters that unfolded across the Fellowship. It features writings by Shooshie's collaborators, highlighting the Fellowship’s distinctive qualities—its open-endedness and emphasis on the journey rather than destination—while documenting its many trajectories.
Join us in Orang Laut SG's Tanah dan Air garden as we close this chapter with new friends and collaborators in an evening of gathering, storytelling and food. The publication, Building a ‘non-institution’ institution with Shooshie Sulaiman, will be on sale during the event. A limited stock of special edition copies containing selected Karutarial cards produced by Shooshie will also be available for purchase. While stocks last.

• Please note that shoes should be taken off when entering Tanah dan Air.
• Your deposit will be returned immediately upon your attendance. Please note that no-shows will result in no refund.
"Building a 'non-institution' institution with Shooshie Sulaiman" is a process-centred Fellowship that follows Shooshie’s intention to house a second iteration of an earlier work, Emotional Library (2007), in a shophouse based in Malacca. Shooshie’s artistic practice has never shied away from embracing the personal, intuitive and emotive. All of which Emotional Library (2007) exemplifies as the entry point to this Fellowship.

Film Screenings
Produced over the duration of the Fellowship, a screening of selected documentaries filmed by Dua Tahun Durian Productions will be presented, showing key points in the development of the Fellowship.
Paintmaking with Wild Dot: How can we see colours as living again?
Discover the slow craft of colour-making with Wild Dot. Select from a small menu of special pigments and learn the precise process of transformation.
