[Performance] How long to take a centipede to wear socks? (Metamorphosis) by Jeremy Hiah
Date: Sat, 1 Aug 2026
Time: 4-4.45pm
Venue: Level 3, Gallery 4, SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark
Free, by registration
How long to take a centipede to wear socks? (Metamorphosis) is a performance inspired by Franz Kafka's novella of the same name, reimagining the story's central transformation through Jeremy's recurring centipede motif.
The performance centres on the activation of a sculptural prop. Constructed from kitchen works, sickles and other cooking implements, this has become a longstanding emblem within Jeremy's practice, carrying personal and symbolic associations connected to his now-defunct independent art space, Your Mother Gallery.
Over the years, Jeremy has developed and performed this work together with his son, Han. For The Living Room, father and son will activate and perform alongside the sculpture, extending the work's themes of transformation, continuity and intergenerational exchange.
