SPIRIT ATS is a special collaboration between Tanatchai Bandasak and Voranat Voraphitak (Urk). Their performance of “Time Spiral Vortex” explores how sound and image can be used to capture how a snake injects venom into its victim. It merges machine learning, noises, sub-bass and polyrhythms with razor sharp synchronisation between audio and visuals.
Born by Gorgeousness by HAEPAARY | Sat, 18 Jan | 9.30pm
HAEPAARY is an alt-electronic duo based in Korea, consisting of Minhee and Hyewon. For Singapore Art Week, they have prepared a setlist that speaks to who they are. The first half of the concert consists of ambient tracks realised in 2024 that sing about the power of thought with music. This is followed by electronic pop music that mixes ambient and techno with Jongmyo Jerye, music and dance used in ancestral rites at Jongmyo, the royal shrine of the Joseon Dynasty. [TALK] Artist Talk: Pratchaya Phinthong with Exhibition Curator, Selene Yap
Date: Fri, 17 Jan
Time: 5pm – 6pm
Venue: Level 3, The Main Deck, SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark
The exhibition No Patents on Ideas presents Thai artist, Pratchaya Phinthong's engagement with the politics of exchange and transformation, using objects, actions, and ideas to reveal the hidden narratives and systems underlying everyday life. Join Pratchaya Phinthong and exhibition curator, Selene Yap in a discussion on how objects resist fixed meanings, instead evolving through their contexts, encounters, and the stories they accumulate to embody a subtle yet incisive critique of contemporary conditions.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Pratchaya Phinthong
Pratchaya Phinthong creates situations that invite visitors to share in an experience with him. His projects, undefined by specific forms, suggest gaps for spectators to interpret and fill. He constructs sets, fictions, or processes that challenge perceptions, offering stories with multiple pathways—blending memory and subjective experience. Rooted in dialogue between the artist and others, his work shifts toward the social realm. Beyond artistic or formal exploration, Phinthong seeks to navigate his identity within economic and cultural contexts.
Phinthong held his first solo exhibition at The Art Center, Chulalongkorn University in 2008, and has since exhibited widely. He has participated in numerous international biennale presentations, including Sharjah Biennial 16 (2025); Busan Biennale (2024); Singapore Biennale (2022); 17th Istanbul Biennial (2022); Dhaka Art Summit (2020); Art Encounters Biennale, Timisoara (2017); 14th Biennale de Lyon (2017); Taipei Biennial (2012); and Documenta 13 (2012).
Selene Yap
Selene Yap is a Curator at the Singapore Art Museum. Her recent projects include Simryn Gill & Charles Lim Yi Yong: The Sea is a Field (2024), Ho Tzu Nyen: Time & the Tiger (2023), Joo Choon Lin: Dance in the Destruction Dance (2023) and the recently launched solo exhibition of Thai contemporary artist Pratchaya Phinthong, No Patents on Ideas (2024). Prior to her appointment at SAM, she held research positions at the Future Cities Laboratory and Singapore University of Technology and Design, and was also a programme manager for visual arts at The Substation, Singapore.
[PERFORMANCE] Ghost of Time by Park Minhee
Date: Fri, 17 Jan
Time: 8pm
Venue: Level 3, Gallery 3, SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark
This solo performance by Park Minhee was specially conceived for the exhibition Seeing Forest. It responds to the multi-channel soundscape created by musician and composer Jang Yonggyu for Robert Zhao Renhui's two-channel video work The Owl, The Travellers, and The Cement Drain (2024). Drawing from the repertoire of gagok, a traditional Korean vocal music genre rooted in poetry, Minhee creates a subtle layer of sound that permeates the exhibition gallery. As she moves through the space, her vocal movements—drifting like ghosts between the scenes, artworks and audience—transport visitors from a room to share music (pungryubang) to the forests of Singapore. Spanning both physical and mental spaces, the performance evokes reflections on Asia's diverse landscapes.

[ACTIVATION] Rehearsal for Robot Bodies
Date: Sat, 18 Jan
Time: 5pm – 6pm
Venue: Fort Canning Green, Fort Canning Park
The artwork builds on artist Samuel Swope’s experience working with controlled and autonomous robotic systems, particularly with custom-made aerial drones, as performing entities. Collaborating with contemporary-movement choreographer, Sudhee Liao, the performance features a cast of modified robotic lawnmowers currently in use at the performance site, the historic Fort Canning Park in Singapore. These robotic performers will draw on diverse influences, ranging from traditional and contemporary dance and movement practices, swarm choreography, and the movement of robotic entities used for menial and repetitive labour.
Through this intervention into public space, Swope and Liao will reflect on the evolution of contemporary movement practices, positioning the moving body in response to the automation of image-based artistic practices, automation of labour, and the potential roles and limitations imposed on non-human entities in an anthropocentric, productivity-driven society.
This performance is a pre-Biennale activation, presented as part of the upcoming Singapore Biennale 2025.

[PUBLIC ART] A Daily Act
Exercises for the everyday, from the everyday
Date: 17 – 26 Jan
Venue: Container Bay (rear entrance of SAM), SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark
A Daily Act is a year-long project by Atelier HOKO, commissioned by The Everyday Museum, a public art initiative by SAM. In July 2024, the project explored the nature of public art and daily routines through over 80 prompts distributed across Tanjong Pagar via banners, flyers and postcards. Each prompt invited public responses, written or performed. Reflecting on these responses, the creators focused on “instructions” and observed a key insight: we perform instructions daily, often without realising it.
The concluding presentation of A Daily Act, part of SAW 2025, will further the dialogue on navigating the boundaries between routine compliance and creative expression in our daily interactions. A Daily Act invites us to consider how instructions can free us, embrace subjectivity, and foster spontaneity and joy in everyday life.

[INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION] -i-n-f-i-n-i-t-e-
Date: 17 Jan – 9 Feb
Time: 10am – 7pm*
(*Extended museum hours apply during SAW from 10am to 9pm on Fri – Sat, 17 – 18 and 24 – 25 Jan)

-i-n-f-i-n-i-t-e- is an interactive installation by multidisciplinary artist Natalia Tan responding to the Yee I-Lann: Mansau Ansau exhibition.
Commonplace objects found on the grounds of SAM have been cocooned in strips of fabric salvaged from textile waste, adding new layers of visual and textural complexity while concealing their original silhouettes. The installation becomes a site for communal play and co-creation. Visitors are invited to co-create the work: they can weave the fabric strips, prepared by various communities, into the installation. A tongue-in-cheek approach to “play at work,” the series draws attention to material circularity, invisible labour—especially in the service and creative industries—and how storytelling can inject new life into everyday objects.

The songs are the weavers’ favourite for karaoke singing. Calling attention to the shifting publics and uses of the Rail Corridor, Singapore Deviation sets up an encounter with a range of figures, messages and sensations that constitute the multi-faceted experience of the Rail Corridor. [ART TRAIL] Port/raits of Tanjong Pagar: Encounters with Art in the Neighbourhood
Date: 17 Jan – 9 Mar
Time: Accessible at all times
Venue: Various locations along the Rail Corridor
Across the public spaces between Outram Park MRT and Singapore Art Museum’s present location at the Tanjong Pagar Distripark, Port/raits of Tanjong Pagar showcases the district’s dramatic transformations district over the decades through a series of public artworks by six artists and collectives: Aki Hassan, Divaagar, Space Objekt, Grace Tan, Zen Teh and Isabella Teng.
By drawing attention to the complexities of urban life in contrast to the grinding of heavy machinery and the humdrum of port operations that had characterised the written history of this district, the commissioned works in Port/raits of Tanjong Pagar suggest slowing down and taking in alternative perspectives of the vicinity. Journey across the various locations of Tanjong Pagar Distripark, Everton Park, Duxton Plain Park and Tanjong Pagar Plaza and discover the softer side of the neighbourhood, which is a testament to Singapore’s transition into a metropolis.

[PUBLIC ART] Public Art Commissions at Tanjong Pagar Distripark
Date: 17 Jan 2025 – 31 Dec 2026
Time: Accessible at all times
Venue: Level 1, Cargo Lift Lobby A and B, Tanjong Pagar Distripark
Two new artworks by Fiona Seow and Ian Tee will be on view from 17 January at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, commissioned by The Everyday Museum, a public art initiative by Singapore Art Museum.
Greener Pastures by Fiona Seow and DEEP CUTS by Ian Tee (with Muhammad Dhiya Bin Rahman and Jovan Tong) turn unremarkable-looking cargo lift lobbies into canvases for artworks that draw inspiration from the Distrpark’s location and characteristics.
Greener Pastures references the cuboid forms of containers and pallets, painting them with green accents to contrast industrial steel with ideas of nature. The flow and repetition of forms in the work allude to developmental infrastructures and nature’s cycles of renewal, seemingly at odds but oddly in harmony in our urban landscape.
In DEEP CUTS, industrial textures are reimagined through a vinyl mural that blends techniques like woodblock printing and pixel art. Composed like a graphic novel, the work explores themes of perception, youth subcultures, and digital aesthetics, inviting viewers to consider how fragments of daily life shape our experience.
The two works reflect the rhythm of the spaces they inhabit, offering fresh perspectives on urbanity, transformation and scenes of the everyday.

Calling attention to the shifting publics and uses of the Rail Corridor, Singapore Deviation sets up an encounter with a range of figures, messages and sensations that constitute the multi-faceted experience of the Rail Corridor. Each artist reanimates the physical site, considering the Rail Corridor not just as a space of transit but as a constantly changing space with an ambiguous status and uncertain future. These works invite new perspectives on the diverse social, historical, and ecological relationships that determine the continued relevance of this historic railway track.

Date: 17 Jan – 9 Mar
