Join Dr. Shawn Lum, Senior Lecturer at the Asian School of the Environment, Nanyang Technological University, and SAM curator Joella Kiu as they discuss the fascinating world of tropical forest fragments. In this talk, they will explore the ecology of the forest, the challenges of fragmentation, the forest’s remarkable process of regeneration, as well as how these themes connect to our special exhibition, Olafur Eliasson: Your curious journey.
About the speaker
Dr. Shawn Lum teaches at the NTU Asian School of the Environment. He is a botanist and forest ecologist who also moonlights as a nature conservation volunteer. Islands seem to be a recurring theme in his life. Lum was born on an island (Honshu), grew up on a smaller one (O’ahu, Hawaii) and spent his working life on an even smaller one (Singapore). For the past 30 years, he has studied forest fragments, islands of green in non-forested matrices.
