  • The latest exhibition that saw several works from our collection travel to Kuala Lumpur is ILHAM x SAM Project: The Body Politic and the Body.

Ah, the Life of a Travelling Artwork

Admit it, you thought SAM’s art exhibitions would take a break during the redevelopment of our buildings, didn’t you? Nope! Not the art in this museum

Through collaborations with local libraries and international partners, selected works will travel across the city or the region for off-site exhibitions, continuing to engage and inspire as they did before. The latest exhibition that saw several works from our collection travel to Kuala Lumpur is ILHAM x SAM Project: The Body Politic and the Body.  Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how the art made it safely across our shores to Malaysian soil!

Here’s SAM’s (foreground) and ILHAM Gallery’s (background) conservators, Nahid and Azzad, making sure that the works are in tip-top condition for travel.

Artworks that are to be exhibited at ILHAM Gallery are being crated according to their sizes.

The crated artworks are loaded onto a truck and ready to go.

The artworks have arrived in ILHAM Gallery and are unboxed, ready to be installed by the exhibition team.

No time to go to Malaysia? Not to worry! You still have time to catch it before it closes on 12 April 2020. Otherwise, the SAM Mini Mobile Museum exhibition is also travelling to a local library near you. Find out more here.

We’ll keep you posted on all the exhibitions and events that SAM is up to during its redevelopment. In the meantime, if you’re interested in learning more about SAM’s art collection, or have a story to share about SAM or its buildings, please reach out to us at enquiries@singaporeartmuseum.sg.
