Vishal KUMARASWAMY

Artist Residency || 01 Oct 2022 to 31 Mar 2023

While in residence, Vishal Kumaraswamy plans to further investigate the sociological underpinnings of caste and race by examining the conditions that cause marginalisation and subalternity across multiple spaces, both in the inhabited physical geographies and on shared digital spaces. Kumaraswamy will continue to develop Subaltern Futurism, a long-term critical & practice-led framework for artistic research, practice and the technological education of marginalised communities. Drawing from his own Bahujan heritage, anti-caste literature & critical race theory, Kumaraswamy's framework posits that artistic practice must formulate empathetic & pragmatic actions in order to shape the imagination of radical futures arising in the Global South.
